Update from Belleruth Naparstek

This week we heard about two very different reactions to the Healing Trauma imagery, and I think it’s important to share both of them with you. The woman who wrote the ASK BR question wasn’t ready for either the PTSD imagery or the kind of therapy she was getting - she needed to start with simple self-regulation work; and the woman in our INSPIRING STORY section benefited immediately and deeply from the trauma imagery.

These two responses show the range of possible reactions to this very intense, powerful imagery. The lesson is obvious, for both therapists and trauma survivors: there’s no cookie-cutter response, and sensitivity is required. You can play it safe by starting slowly with simple relaxation and less evocative imagery, building skills for self-regulation first. Once those tools are firmly in place, you are ready to work with the more intense, healing imagery; or you may not need it, once you have these wonderful tools working for you.

Enthusiasm, Forgiveness, Gratitude & Hospitality We’re introducing a beautiful DVD on the qualities of Enthusiasm, Forgiveness, Gratitude & Hospitality by Mary Ann & Fred Brussat, award-winning authors and creators of a terrific, content-rich portal site, SpiritualityandPractice.com. This video has exquisite videography, compelling sayings and wonderful teaching stories, dedicated to helping people develop relevant spiritual practices in everyday life - a marvelous, content-rich tool for personal reflection or for group sharing.

Barry and Karen Bittman, pioneers in mind-body treatment, based in Meadville, PA, recently announced the opening of their Meadville Medical Center’s Oncology Wellness Institute, a new, integrative, state-of-the-art cancer center that treats the whole person and their family in one gorgeous, cutting-edge spot.

The staff is warm and welcoming, the equipment is the best, and doctors actually listen to patients. The Center offers counseling, nutrition, massage, art and music therapy and guided imagery, and even has a healing garden.

The grand opening will be on Friday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Allegheny College, with Bernie Siegel as guest speaker. Public tours start on Saturday, from 10-2. For more information, call 814-337-8192 or email keb@touchstarpro.com.

OK, that’s all for now.

Take care and be well,

Quote of the Day
Most of the stuff I say is true because I saw it in a dream, and I don't have the presence of mind to make up lies when I'm asleep.
